Chapel Choir sings Evensong with Visiting Choir
On Saturday 9th May, the Chapel Choir welcomed the Choir of St Mary’s Collegiate Church Warwick to Cambridge. After an afternoon’s punting, the visitors enjoyed a lavish tea in the Prioress’s Room, during which they met some of the current Choral Scholars taking a break from their exam revision. This occasion was especially momentous for Choral Scholar, Toby Miller, who sang with St Mary’s before coming up to Cambridge, and for the Director of Music at St Mary’s, Tom Corns, who was Organ Scholar of Jesus College between 1998 and 2001. Evensong proved a real treat for the congregation with the combined chorus giving added impetus to Walmisley in D minor and Stanford’s For lo, I raise up in the intimate setting of the College Chapel.

Choir Alumni Return for Joint Evensong
On Sunday 3rd May, the current College Choir were joined at Evensong by former choir members. Whilst some Choral Scholars returned just a few months after graduating, we also welcomed many singers who matriculated several years ago - in one case 65 years ago! The resulting choir of 60 current and former Choral Scholars produced a fantastic sound, and the massed voices shook the building to its foundations in Howells in G and Elgar’s magnificent Give Unto the Lord. Choir members old and new then enjoyed dinner together in Hall, making for a memorable and highly enjoyable evening.

Combined Choir Sings Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral
For the Combined Choir, the beginning of Easter Term proved very exciting. On Monday 20th April, the Choir was welcomed to St Paul’s Cathedral. Here, they sang Evensong with music including the Mathias Jesus Service and Stanford’s Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem. Whilst singing in the fantastic acoustic was challenging, the experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
